TopicDNA helps your social ad campaigns by creating highly effective audiences for you to target. When you build audiences, we find and profile individuals who fit your input criteria. When this profiling is complete, we then aggregate and anonymise the data and show you the interests that this group of people are passionate about. You would then push this interest-based audience into your chosen social ad platform to target similar people. This guide will show you how to create target audiences to use on Facebook.
Step 1. Go to the Audiences section of TopicDNA.
Step 2. Once in the Audiences section, press the "Create a New Audience" button to start the audience creation wizard.
Step 3. Once the wizard starts, you will have the option of choosing which platform you would like to create the target audience for. Please note that when you create an audience for Facebook, you can also use it to target on Instagram through Facebook Ads Manager. For this example, we will choose the Facebook/Instagram option.
Step 4. The next step in the wizard allows you to choose three different ways to build your Facebook/Instagram target audience. There are as follows:
- Build: Enter in what interests your target audience has and we'll find the closest matches to those interests using social accounts. We then profile the followers of those accounts for their interests.
- Upload: Send us an email list from your CRM system. It can be a list of your best customers, newsletter subscribers or any other email list in a .csv format. Don't worry, everything is encrypted on our end when you upload.
- Request: Write out your target audience requirements and send it to our team for further action.
For this example, we'll choose the Build option.
Step 5. There are many different options when you want to build your audience. You must enter in a social handle to proceed to the next screen. Further options allow you to segment the followers of that social handle so you can really understand the interests of your chosen audience.
You can enter in any social handle that is public, and the search engine will display the results. You can enter in multiple handles and the algorithm will use an 'OR' operator when finding the followers of those handles. In the example below, for instance, it would find people who follow Nike OR Adidas OR Puma.
You can further refine your search by country, gender and/or age range. For example, the following screenshot shows that you would like to find people who follow Nike OR Adidas OR Puma, who live in the United Kingdom, who are female and are between the ages of 25-34.
Step 6. Once your criteria is set, you can give your audience a name. The default is set to the handles that you input as shown below.
Or you can change it to whatever best describes this audience, such as:
When you are finished, press the "Create Audience" button to initiate the building of this audience.
Step 7. You will be taken back to the Audience section where you can see the progress of the audience building. When your audience is finished, we will let you know through your notifications. To build another audience, press the "New Audience" button.
And that's it! You're on your way to creating highly-effective audiences for your Facebook ad campaigns!
